State Bar of Montana

Concerning District Judge G. Todd Baugh

The current events involving Judge Baugh are under review by the Montana Supreme Court and the Montana Attorney General’s office. The legal and factual issues are complex and prone to misunderstanding. The integrity of the judicial system and process is important to the State Bar of Montana. We want the public to be able to respect and trust our judicial system, and the people who administer justice.

The controversy is part of an ongoing criminal case. The State Bar of Montana does not comment on pending litigation consistent with the ABA Criminal Justice Standards on Fair Trial, and Public Discourse dated August 2013:

The judicial branch has long had in place a mechanism for addressing this type of situation and that mechanism is the Judicial Standards Commission. That Commission is in the best position to explain its process. The State Bar of Montana has no authority over Judge Baugh or the Judicial Standards Commission.

The State Bar has no additional comment.
