State Bar of Montana's
Family Law Section

Announcements:

ANNUAL APRIL 1ST UPDATE TO CHILD SUPPORT GUIDELINES:

The Montana child support guidelines make use of three tables:  Table 1, Table 2, and Table 3.  The first two – tables 1 and 2 - are based on the federal poverty guidelines which are normally updated once a year, usually in late winter or early spring.  This year, due to the economy, the poverty guidelines are not being updated and the guidelines released in 2009 continue to be the official guidelines.  With no changes to the federal poverty guidelines for 2010, Montana cannot update guidelines tables 1 and 2 and the 2009 tables continue in effect until further notice.  Table 3 is updated as of April 1 for the 2010 change to the IRS business mileage rate, which is now $0.50/mile.

BILLINGS SELF HELP LAW CENTER RECEIVES HELP FROM THE SECTION:

A check from the Family Law Section was presented at the Open House for the Billings Self Help Law Center. The check paid the rent through the end of the biennium for the Center, allowing it to remain open from December of this year through June of next year.

The Section got some good press: KTVQ carried the story on the evening news last night and the Billings Gazette mentioned the Section as well. Here's a link to the webcast version on KTVQ. Here's a link to the Gazette story.

Thank you all for helping to get this done! Here's a link to the video of the check presentation made, if you're interested.
