The American Bar Association has partnered with the State Bar of Texas to make it easier for lawyers from across the nation to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

One way lawyers can help is by providing volunteer legal services through ABA/Texas Free Legal Answers.

Following an order issued by the Texas Supreme Court permitting out of state attorneys to provide legal assistance to individuals and entities affected by Hurricane Harvey, the ABA has modified its ABA Free Legal Answers system in Texas to allow out of state attorneys to answer Harvey-related questions. Information on how to do this is offered in the attached flyer. Training resources are provided.

Additionally, the ABA has created a web page with information about Harvey relief, including how to volunteer, at https://www.americanbar.org/groups/committees/disaster/harvey.html#1.

Recognizing that Florida may face a similar situation, the ABA is exploring doing the same with Florida Legal Answers in the event that Hurricane Irma causes substantial damage leading to the need for pro bono disaster legal services.
