2018 Bucking Horse CLE

-Approved for 6.0 Montana CLE Credits

What will you learn?

This CLE will feature a panoply of topics for the Prairie Lawyer, from employment, estates and family law to property issues specific to farms and ranches, as well as oil and gas title issues.

The employment law segment will address workplace governance and litigation issues arising under Montana’s Wrongful Discharge from Employment Act.  The wills and estates presentation will focus on various types of trusts and how to administer them.  Our family law speaker will discuss dissolution cases involving the family farm or land that has been in the same family for generations.

The afternoon program will start with an examination of Montana laws governing the trespass of cattle, rules applicable to livestock other than cattle (including bison), and the increasing use of herd districts to shift the open range’s “fence out” rules.  Staff from Disability Rights Montana will speak about legal issues involving service animals, disability employment discrimination, and accessibility awareness.

Our final speaker will provide a primer on oil and gas law, including the
numerous ownership issues caused by poorly drafted conveyance documents and incomplete succession.  This presentation will include a brief history of oil and gas production in Montana and introduce attendees to terms common in the industry.
