  • Jared M. LeFevre (Moderator)
  • Michael T. Garrett, IRS Legal Counsel

Michael will discuss his duties with the IRS especially as related to the IRS Chief Legal Counsel in Montana, which will include how IRS legal counsel is structured, what dealings the IRS legal counsel has in Montana, how the office of legal counsel works remotely when there is no legal counsel in the state, its dealings with Tax Court in Montana, and items that IRS legal counsel would like tax attorneys in Montana to know about dealing with its office or tax court. There will also be a Q&A portion for attendees.

About the Speaker:

Michael Garrett started with Chief Counsel in 2006 as a trial attorney in Laguna Niguel, California.  From 2008 through 2010, he served a two-year detail at SB/SE Division Headquarters.  This detail focused on tax litigation, especially issues involving Tax Court practice and procedure.  At the end of 2010, Michael returned to trial work in SB/SE’s Denver field office.  Since 2018, Michael has managed the Denver office’s “S” case cadre, which is also responsible for the office’s cases that proceed to trial at remote calendars in various states, including Montana.
