Name: David J. Steele II

Employment: Managing Partner, Geiszler Steele

Position sought: Secretary-Treasurer

Candidate statement:

I am honored and humbled to be nominated to serve as Treasurer for the State Bar of Montana. I am qualified to serve as Treasurer for our organization based upon my unique skill set and relevant professional experience.

During my tenure as an Area B Trustee, I have learned much about the inner workings of the State Bar, and how the various Commissions, Committees and Sections interact with the Courts, the Bar and with each other. In particular, during my last year serving as Trustee, I have had the good fortune to serve on the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee is charged with establishing a proposed budget for the State Bar. During that process, I have gained a detailed working knowledge of the State Bar Budget and its numerous components and line items. I have also learned a great deal about the stake holders involved with and affected by the budget process. In addition to my direct experience with the State Bar Budget, I also have relevant and detailed knowledge about numerous other issues facing the State Bar which may also affect the budgetary process in the coming years.

My law practice will also prove helpful in serving as Treasurer for the State Bar. As an attorney, my primary practice area involves assisting businesses with business-related transactional matters and litigation. As an attorney who regularly interacts with business-oriented clients, I have been fortunate to learn about their business operations and best practices. Similarly, the skills developed during my continuing role as managing partner at my own firm will also prove useful in helping to run the business of the State Bar.

Finally, during my tenure as a board member and past president of the Western Montana Bar Association, and continuing during my time as State Bar Trustee, I have developed excellent working relationships with the State Bar staff, the Executive Director and other stake holders. These relationships will also prove invaluable in facilitating my role as Treasurer for the Montana State Bar.

Again, I sincerely appreciate being considered to serve as Treasurer for the State Bar of Montana. Thank you for your support.
