Name: Kate McGrath Ellis

Employment: Attorney, Christensen & Prezeau, Helena

Position sought: President-Elect

Candidate statement:

This is my fifth year on the Board of Trustees representing Area F, which encompasses Lewis and Clark and Broadwater Counties. I currently serve as the Chair of the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Executive Committee. I am also a member of the Finance Committee, which is the subcommittee that works with the Secretary-Treasurer and State Bar staff to produce a draft budget to the Board for approval, and am the Trustee liaison to the Women’s Law Section, the CLE Institute, and the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection.  It has been my privilege to learn about and contribute to the vast number of services the State Bar provides to its members and the public, like, for example, providing relevant and affordable CLE programming to the members, as well as free legal research opportunities through Fastcase. I am running for President-Elect because I wish to continue the rewarding experience of serving the State Bar, and believe I have a solid foundation upon which to lead the State Bar.

I am currently an attorney at Christensen & Prezeau in Helena, which is a litigation firm consisting of four attorneys. Before entering the legal profession, I worked for a decade as a park ranger for the National Park Service, and had the pleasure to serve in Grand Teton, Rocky Mountain, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Parks. I enjoy all things outdoors (except ice climbing) with my husband and two daughters, primarily skiing, camping, running, and raising chickens.
