Eligible Applicants & Swearing-In

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:

To qualify for admission to the State Bar of Montana, applicants must have met all eligibility requirements, including payment of dues and license fees to the State Bar of Montana. Upon notification of eligibility, applicants may mail the Member Enrollment Form to PO Box 577, Helena, MT 59624, or fax the forms to 406-442-7763. To pay dues and license fees, by phone contact Jill Diveley, 406-447-2211 Applicants may not be sworn-in to the State Bar until the Member Enrollment Form has been submitted and the license fees and dues have been paid.

SWEARING-IN: The Montana Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for Montana control the swearing-in of applicants to the Courts of Montana. All questions regarding swearing-in should be directed to the Court Clerks' offices. Both the Montana Supreme Court and the Montana Federal Court require either contact and/or filing of certain documents in advance of the ceremony. Additional information will be mailed and/or e-mailed from the Courts upon completion of eligibility requirements.

SUPREME COURT CEREMONY: Due to the Governor's dictates regarding large gatherings, there will not be a ceremony.  Please contact the office of the Clerk of the Montana Supreme Court regarding protocols for being sworn-in at (406)444-3858.

FEDERAL COURT:   For those who wish to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Montana, please contact your local federal clerk's office.

OFF-SITE: Applicants who are unable to be sworn-in during the ceremony must petition the Clerk of the Montana Supreme Court for information off-site swearing-in at another time and/or location. A sample petition is posted on the Court's website and questions should be directed to the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court at 406-444-3858.
