Tester, Daines taking applications for nominees to replace Judge Christensen

Sen. Jon Tester and Sen. Steve Daines have officially opened the application process to fill the pending vacancy on Montana’s U.S. District Court. 

The pending vacancy was created when U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen of Missoula announced he would take senior status upon confirmation of his successor. The Constitution gives senators responsibility for providing advice and consent to the president on federal judicial nominations. In addition to the Senate’s responsibility to vote on judicial confirmations, President Biden is expected to confer with Montana’s senators in selecting a nominee to fill a vacancy in their home state. Sens. Tester and Daines will review the applications before recommending individuals to the White House for the nomination.

The deadline for submitting application materials is June 14, 2023.
