Candidate statement for Erica Grinde, Area B Trustee

I am honored to serve as an Area B Trustee having been appointed to a vacant seat in September 2019.  I have spent the majority of my career serving the public as well as the bar.  I currently am the Director of Risk Management and Benefits for Missoula County, a position I have held for just over five years.  Prior to that I worked as a Civil Deputy County Attorney for Missoula County following five years in private practice with Browning, Kaleczyc, Berry & Hoven.

Since entering the profession in 2008, I have been actively engaged in bar leadership at the national level serving in various leadership positions with the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division as well as serving as the Young Lawyer Delegate-at-Large to the ABA Board of Governors from 2015-2018.  I have enjoyed giving back to the profession through bar service and look forward to continuing to do so as a State Bar Trustee.  The profession continues to be ever changing and faces unique challenges all of the time.  I am fortunate to work with a great number of local attorneys in my position with Missoula County, both those in government service as well as those in the private sector.

I have unique connections to Area B in that I have spent my career practicing in Missoula, but grew up and graduated from high school in Polson while my husband, Jeremy LaPorte, is a Kalispell native.  My family is deeply connected to the Missoula, Mission, and Flathead valleys and spend a great deal of time living and working in these areas.  We are thankful to be raising our three children, Jeffrey, Anna, and Emma, in communities that place such great pride in community and professional service.  I look forward to continuing to give back to both the profession and the communities that support my family.
