Candidate statement for Matthew Haus, Area G Trustee

I am a partner with the law firm of Tarlow Stonecipher Weamer & Kelly, PLLC.  For a brief background, I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2012.  After working as a corporate lawyer in Minnesota, I began my legal career in Bozeman in 2014.  I currently have a general civil practice with an emphasis on litigation.  I have also had the pleasure of serving as a Trustee over the last two years and a Board Member/Past-President of the Gallatin County Bar Association.

Serving as a Trustee has reinforced my belief that it is important for lawyers to interact in-person with one another at events such as local bar luncheons or the Annual Meeting for the State Bar.  These interactions help to ensure that Montana lawyers continue to treat each other with professional courtesy.   The pandemic led to the cancellation of many in-person events, so I was happy when the State Bar of Montana was able to accomplish hosting last year’s Annual Meeting as a hybrid with virtual and in-person attendees.

The State Bar of Montana has also started to address the unfortunate politicization of our judiciary that has escalated over the last two years.  I would like to continue those efforts as public distrust in the judiciary is harmful to all practicing attorneys.

I am seeking to serve as a Trustee for another two-year term in order to continue the transition of the State Bar out of the pandemic and assist with the State Bar’s efforts to provide public information and education on the importance of the rule of law and the role of the judiciary.
