State Bar Supports Expanding Access to Justice in Rural Montana Courts

Access to justice isn’t abstract in Montana, it’s shaped by distance, cost, and the reality that many communities simply don’t have enough lawyers.

That’s why the State Bar has filed comments with the Montana Supreme Court supporting carefully structured, court-supervised approaches to expand access to legal services—especially for Montanans in rural and underserved areas.

The comments reflect years of work by Montana lawyers to close the justice gap, protect the public, and support solutions that are tested, limited in scope, and responsive to real needs in justice and municipal courts. This filing is part of the Bar’s broader, ongoing commitment to strengthening access to justice statewide and ensuring our courts work for all Montanans.
